You are trying to do WHAT?!

If you are right clicking on the Server cd icon and selecting compatibility
mode like a ordinary program then forget it. You cannot start a Windows
Setup.exe that way. What does "i dont have hard disk drive" mean? You
obviously do (you're running Vista on it). Did you mean to say that you
don't have a free partition on your hard drive? Are you trying to create a
dual boot system?

If you are wanting to run Server to learn more about it I suggest you use
Virtual PC or Virtual Server instead, assuming you have 2GB or more on your
system. That way you do not need a separate partition and you can even run
Vista and Server simultaneously.

Well, of course you do. You can't install a server OS from within a
workstation OS. It's not a supported upgrade path. You'll have to boot
from the Windows Server 2003 disk, format the hard drive (unless you're
contemplating a dual-boot), and proceed from there.

ive
tried installing from the disk when booting but it wont work since i dont
have hard disk drive

Then the Windows Server 2003 installation package lacks the necessary
device drivers for your computer's IDE/SCSI/SATA controller. Obtain
those from the computer manufacturer and have that disk ready to insert
when prompted.

1. You can't install server 2003 over vista
2. If you want to do a new install of server 2003, boot into vista safe
mode first
3. If you don't want to use vista anymore, boot from the server 2003 cd.

Colin,

I want to put windows server 2003 in my home vista, but to use it for my
college course. You stated to run it through virtual pc but that won't work
for me because the virtual pc that the college wants me to use is virtual pc
2003, which I found out is not compatible with vista home. What would be your
suggestion for that?

Any help would most appreciated.

This is what you stated to cpower03:

can you not download a newer version of Virtual PC or get your college
to do that? I use VPC on Vista with Server 2003/SCCM and no problems.

May be some confusion here - evidently the college is using
VMWARE?CommectixVirtual PC - bought out by Microsoft and reissued as Virtual
PC 2004. which suuports hosting by all 32 bit Vista version.

It is a free download - since it is Server 2003 of interest, the Virtual PC
2004 as host should not be a problem.
