Hi,
I'm completely computer illiterate, I'm upgrading from XP, and while trying
to install Vista Ultimate i got a message saying to uninstall Nero (which i
did) and now it says to uninstall another program which i cant find and to be
honest have no idea where to look or even what it is, can anyone let me know
what i am looking for. Thanks

Message:

You must make the following changes before installing Windows

Close Windows installation, go to Programs, and uninstall the
following programs:

o Windows SharePoint Services

The compatibility report will be saved to the current Windows
desktop.

Wikipedia says:
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 was released on November 16, 2006 as
part of the Microsoft Office 2007 suite...

It also mentions MS FrontPage as a possible way to get WSS on your
machine. Do you have either of these applications, or did you ever have
them?

Because you have purchased a non-microsoft product, which Microsoft won't
tolerate. Nero can be used to copy stuff and Micro$oft won't stand for
this.

Hi Don,
Thank you for answering, I once had frontpage about a year ago, but when i
reinstalled xp, i didn't reinstall Frontpage, I do have Office 2007 installed
and thought that may have been the problem but didn't understand why the
newest version would not allow me to install vista, i figured if anything it
would be the most compatible (Office 2007 doesn't have frontpage with it)

The only information i can find about removing Windows SharePoint Services,
is to just remove it in add/remove programs which it isnt there.

Thanks again

Knock yourself out. It would only prove my point that MICROSOFT (and its
drones) CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.
They have to hire advocates to troll here FOR their products LOL. Pathetic.

Well, that is exactly what I would assume in your position, but I don't
have MS Office so I really can't advise you.

As long as you have a valid license to install MS Office, you might
consider uninstalling it now, and re-installing it after upgrading to Vista.

I have no idea whatever if this idea will work, or leave your machine
a smoking pile of rubble ;o) so don't take this as informed advice!
I'm hoping someone who actually knows the answer will pipe up.

As an aside, I will mention that the (free) office suite available at
OpenOffice.org will do most anything that MS Office does, at a slightly
lower cost ;o) I use it myself, so I know it is Vista compatible.

Ok, I uninstalled Office 2007, tried to upgrade to Vista again and the same
message popped up, why would such an "advanced" program not be able to help
me with finding and deleting the program? How am i ever going to install
Vista?

This is just a guess. Download and run the Windows installer clean up
utility. If there are any references to Sharepoint Services delete them
with this utility.

Pathetic.

I get no compensation whatsoever for posting here. I have not been hired (to
do this) by anyone.

When i was starting out learning about windows, and other topics, the usenet
community was very helpful, and generous with thier knowledge and
experience. As such, I was able to get a foot-up from a lot of friendly
people.

Now its my turn to return the favor to other people that need help figuring
this stuff out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Its a shame you dont share the same perspective.
