Can't Import IMAP messages from Outlook Express to Vista Mail

Kristi

Hi--I'd love to put my email folders from OE 6 into my new Vista Mail, but
the Mail import won't see any IMAP messages--just gives me an error. The
Microsoft Knowlege Base says IMAP messages CAN'T be migrated to Vista Mail.
Anybody have a work-around for this?
Thanks.

Hi, when migrated from OE to windows mail, i remember windows mail wouldn't
import my OE mailbox files that contained all the messages. Not sure if
this is what you're asking, but I just went to the folder in OE6 w/ all the
messages I wanted to migrate (these are saved messages that are no longer on
my IMAP server), and then selected all the messages and dragged them to an
external drive or thumb drive. This saves them as individual message files
instead of one large mailbox file. Then i just opened windows mail and
dragged the individual mail messages from my thumb drive to the folder in
windows mail.

If the messages you want to import are still on your IMAP server, then they
should be automatically downloaded next time you check for mail or
syncronize. Not sure what microsoft means by saying IMAP messages can't be
migrated. As long as you do the above it should work. hope this helps.

Since local OE6 IMAP folders are a mirror image of the IMAP folders located
on the IMAP server, there's really no need to import them; these messages
are all stored on the IMAP server. All you should have to do is recreate
the IMAP account in Windows Mail and let the IMAP folders sync with the
server.
