Can't Import Address Book

Hi,

Can anyone help? I'm trying to import an address book from Outlook Express 6
into Outlook 2000. I go to the Tools Menu, Address Book, File - but the
Import and Export functions are both greyed out. I can't figure out why.

Can anyone tell me how to make these options active so that I can import the
address book?

Thanks

Karl

Use the File menu > Import & Export command from Outlook's main window, not
the Address Book

I've tried using the import and export command on the main menu. I choosae to
Import Internet Mail and addresses, as it seems the only appropriate option.
In the next screen I untick the option for importing mail, so that only the
option for importing addresses is checked. I then click through to the next
screen and browse to where my Outlook Express 6 address book is saved as an
Address Book File.

I click Next to Import and get the error message "The mail folder could not
be opened. If another application is using this file please close it and try
again."

Any ideas?

It's been a long time since I did that in OL 2000, but it shouldn't be
looking for a file. It should import the addresses directly from Outlook
Express without you browsing for anything.

No, it's on a different machine. I'm trying to take the settings and contents
from my father-in-law's old PC and put them on the new one. This is almost
the last thing left to do (apart from getting the messages over) and it's
driving me nuts.

I save the address book to a floppy, copy it onto the new PC, try to import
it and get the problems I've described.

Thanks for your help?

The two programs are on different machines. I want to export the Outllok
Express 6 address book, rules and message from my father-in-law's old PC and
transfer them to his new (well, somewhat newer) system.

I've started with the address book and it's not going well.

I've done it. I saved the address book as a Microsoft Office Excel Comma
Separated Values File. I then ran the Import Wizard from the main file menu
and choose Import from another program or file > Microsoft Excel, and chose
to save the imported file in the Outlook Contacts folder. It wored fine.

Thanks everyone for your help.

You can only import from OE when both installations are on the same
partition. The better way to do this would have been to import the data into
the correct OE installation, then import from OE to Outlook.
