Can't get video to start

Been reading about the problems people have getting video
to work on XP. I too have this problem - but I haven't
see anyone with my situation.

I have 2 machines running XP inside a Linksys firewall
(UPnP enabled w/latest firmware). Both running MSN
Messenger 5.0 with all the latest XP updates. When I
start a conversation, and click "Start Camera," and the
client accepts the invite, I get a little camcorder icon
with a little red "X" in the left corner. Audio and App
Share work fine.

Yahoo! Messenger works fine, too, for video.

I have enabled UPnP on my firewall and installed the
Univeral Plug and Play components on both XP machines
(under the Control Panel >> Add/Remove Windows Components
I have 2 imaging devices. One is an actual webcam (USB)
and the other is a digital camcorder (Firewire). Both
show up in Device Manager. Neither work.

Anybody have any ideas? I've run out.

these are the setting I use with my linksys router i do not use a firewall
other than the router

I have found that with lisksys routers is that you must a have universal
plug and play installed as well internet gateway device discovery and
control client, go to control panel, add or remove programs, windows
components, networking services, click on details and install
if they are already installed in control panel go to, administrative tools,
services, and look for universal plug and play device, and see if it started
if it is set to start automatic change to manual right click on it go
properties startup type and from drop down box select manual and do the same
for SSDP Discovery service you may have to reboot after reboot you should
see your router in my network places and in view network connections you
will see internet gateway if this fails to work try uninstalling and
reinstalling universal plug and play and internet gateway device discovery

post back and let me know if this helps you

No luck, Lucky One.

I did the following:
1. Made sure that UPnP and Internet Gateway Device Discovery was installed
on both my machines.
2. Made sure UPnP and SSDP servics were running on both machines (UPnP was
not - so I set it to start Automatically). You were right - my Linksys
router showed up in My Network Places. I even logged in to it (as Admin)
and made sure UPnP was enabled.
3. Rebooted both machines.

Still got no video (got the little camcorder icon with a red "X" on it).
Neither my USB nor my 1394 device would work. Both still appeared in Device
Manager.

So I tried to uninstall all UPnP services and started over. Still nothing.

Any other good ideas? I appreciate your time helping me on this.

I went through the Audio Wizard and one of my imaging
devices passed (my digital camcorder). My other device
(a Logitech USB webcam) had an error (device in use by
another application - I'll need to look into it). I was
also able to use both devices to capture images in MS
Paint. So I know both are at least capturing images.

I went to the settings for my internet gateway and
deleted all the msmsgs items (there were 2). I also did
this on the second machine. Then I rebooted both.

Still couldn't get any video. Still got the little
red "X" on the camcorder icon.

I looked at the network gateway settings again and
noticed that there are now 4 msmsgs items listed on both
computers with individual port numbers and they are all
checked (i.e. selected).

I'm going to reinstall my Logitech webcam driver to see
if that get's it to pass the Audio Wizard.

Any other ideas?
