Can't get Rules Wizard to open

Guest

I click on Tools, then Rules Wizard and nothing happens. No matter how many
times I try this, I can not get the rules wizard to open. I can create a
rule using the create a rule option from the right click menu, and all of my
rules work, but i cannot edit or remove any without opening the wizard -
which i cannot do. And right now, i'm getting double messages since i have
multipule rules and i forgot to add the "stop processing rules" part.

Can anyone offer assistance? How can i get the wizard to start opening when
i want it to?

i'm running Office XP on XP home. Thanks in advance

Try the following;
-locate outcmd.dat and rename tt to .old
-start Outlook by Start-> Run; "path to outlook.exe" /cleanrules

i did a search for that file and couldn't find it, where can i look?

Outcmd.dat is usually in the HIDDEN folder %USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. You have to enable searching hidden folders to see
it.

ok, found the file, and changed the extension to .old
then opened the run box and typed
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE" /cleanrules
and got this error:
with outlook not open, "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. The command line
argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."
and with outlook open, i get, "The command line argument is not valid.
Verify the switch you are using."

Any more help please?

Oops, sorry; that command line doesn't exist for Outlook 2002.
Can you get in the Wizard Rules already? Have you done a repair on Office
already?

i cannot get into the rules wizard yet.

found the repair directions in the help system, did it, closed outlook, then
reopened it. still no rules wizard. i may be forced to either... use
outlook express or re-install outlook.. neither of which i want to do. but
may not have a choice.

When you create a separate profile for Outlook with a clean pst-file does it
work then?
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles

If it works know runscanpst.exe against your pst-file to check it for
errors. It might be that the part where the rules are stored has a small
coruption.
Another way to go is to use a new pst-file and copy the content of your
pst-file to the new pst-file.
