Can't get router to work with xp

M

My Name

My daughter is has been trying to hook up her computer along with her room
mates onto cable internet with a router. She has been unable to have
success. She is using win98 and her roommate has winxp. It is a dhcp
connection. Either computer works fine when hooked up separately to the
modem. When the win98 computer is hooked up via the router (port 1) it
works fine but she has been unable to get the winxp computer to work through
the router (port 2). The winxp dhcp configuration tcp/ip is setup for IP
address automatically and DNS server address automatically . She brought
the router home and I tried hooking it up on my home system that has winxp
as the master, winxp on port 2, and win98 on port 3. I went through the
same setup procedures and all three computers work just fine through the
router. I keep thinking that something is set up incorrectly with her room
mates winxp computer but I can't imagine what (it works fine when connected
directly to the modem. I don't know if it has anything to do with the
problem or not but... the winxp computer is dual boot with win98 and winxp
but the win98 does not work so she is using the winxp.

Any help appreciated
MJ
