Can't get onto computer - please help!

I had a virus and used Windows to remove the spyware. When I restarted the
computer, this message came up just before you choose user:

"STOP: c0000135(Unable to locate component) This application failed to
start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix
this problem."

Does anyone know what 'winsrv' is - I'm assuming that I need it and don't
have it? If so where could I get it from, seeing as I can't get to the
logging on page? Any help would be much appreciated.

I've used the recovery console method, and it all worked, until I had to
restart my computer, when it froze on the 'windows starting up page' Any
ideas what I should try now?

And how would I be able to find out what is in the domain box, and whether it
was/is part of a domain?

the pulldown would be right below your username and password but since
you are asking, it would seem that is not the answer. it sounds like
this "virus" has killed a lot more than meets the eye and it may be time
to have a shop help you out of the jam.

So you reckon I need a new computer? Anyone got anything else that could
help - I just need help on sorting out the parameter.

No just that the virus has messed up more of the operating system than I
can help you with.

Just found something that might help - when I was on the user account page, I
pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and on that page, when I clicked options the letters
'EN' came up with a blue background. When I go to log on normally it says
the same thing about the parameter, but when I didn't tyope in the password
it said make sure domain is correct. Is EN the domain? Is any of that of
any use?

It seems that you're running around in circles. Let's get back to
basics. Since your PC was infected by a virus, its operating
system may be damaged. You can try to repair it, or you can
reload Windows from scratch. If it was my PC then I would
take the following steps, in the order shown. If you do not
understand some of the instructions, ask for clarification.

1. Boot into Safe Mode, then run sfc.exe from the Command
Prompt. Sfc.exe (System File Checker) will check and replace
missing system files. If this does not work then . . .
2. Boot the machine with your Win2000 CD, then install
Windows over the top of the existing installation. This will
preserve your existing applications and your data but there
is a risk that you will wipe the disk if you select the wrong
option. If this does not work then . . .
3. Boot the machine with your Win2000 CD, allow the disk
to be formatted, then reinstall Windows and all applications.
You will lose all data files on your disk.

When finished, install a good virus scanner ***before***
connecting to the Internet. Machines without an up-to-date
virus scanner are an accident waiting to happen.

OK, thanks, well I'll give that a go, and if I have any problems I'll say. I
already had Norton Anti-virus set up, but obviously it didn't do the job.
