Cant get Cat's to install in Xp

dyoserve-NEWS

I have a 9600xt made by ati card
Asus a7v8x mobo
1gig ddr 2700
Hercules Game/Theartre Xp sound
Service Pack 1
Bios is Current
All chipset drivers Current
DirectX Current
All Drivers Removed via Drive Cleaner 2 and manual Removal

Whenever i run install goes moves along and then finally kicks out saying
"Setup was unable to complete the installation
try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running
Setup"

that's nice and dandy if Xp offered a standard video driver option

so after 8 hours of jacking with stuff and a million forums i get this

"Setup was unable to complete the installation
try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running
Setup"

Long ago i swore to never use ati (16years) they sucked back then

For some reason i decided was time to give em a try again. OH god why did i
(hits self with a Trout on head)

Im trying my hardest to give them a chance but its just such a hassle to
install there product.

In Advance any help on this would be appreciated. I really want to be a ati
happy person so someone please please help me fix it and prove me wrong
Sincerely ROB

n Advance any help on this would be appreciated.

After your computer POSTS (just after the bios screen, before the
windows boot screen starts up), hit the F8 key, and select "enable VGA
mode" from the Windows boot menu. That'll cure what ails ya.
Run the install, reboot as you normally would.

I'm having the exact same problem. Booting in VGA mode does not help.
Same error as the first guy posted.
