Can't get Access to Recognize Installed Office

I recently got a new computer running Vista. Installed Office
Teacher-Student version 2003 and then tried to install Access as an upgrade.
This worked fine on my old XP machine, but now I keep getting a message
saying it locate the Office installation on tyhe machine and asks me to put
in my Office cd. When I put in the Office cd ias requested and and click ok,
I get: "Error 1608. Setup could not locate a version of Microsoft Office 97,
200, or XP on the selected drive. Click OK to stop the installation. If you
have a version of Microsoft Office on CD-ROM, run setup again." It also
references a location on the disk to find information re:locating a previous
version of Office. I haven't been able to find the information they're
referencing on the disk.

I went on line and found instructions that said I needed to download Service
Pack 3 for Office, which also hasn't helped so far.

Has anyone run into this problem and solved it?

I'm very surprised that it worked for you before. The Teacher-Student
version doesn't qualify for any upgrades. That's the reason why it's so much
cheaper.

Thanks for the information. That's interesting; it didn't balk at all! I do
have an old (full) version off Office 2000 somewhere. If I supply that disk
when to Access installation prompts me for the Office disk, do you think it
would install even though 2000 isn't running on this machine?

Since you didn't mention the specific version of Access you're trying to
install, I can't point you to information on the web.

The upgrade package you have should list what the prerequisites are.
Usually, an Access upgrade package requires a previous version of Access to
have been installed, or some competitive product, but often just putting the
CD into the drive when it's looking for the previous version will be
sufficient.
