Can't FP publish since SP2

Hi, I have been unable to publish in FP, since I
installed SP2 for XP Pro on my client. I publish to a
dedicated server I'm renting running Windows 2003
Standard with FP 2002 server ext. I get the
infamous, "The server has unexpectedly closed the
connection" message. This is not a timing out problem
with the server. I'm using 2 different dial up ISPs that
worked several hours before the installation of SP2 for
many years without any problems. I've read the MS
articles on the proxy server issues, and it may not apply
here. I upgraded from FP 2000 to 2003 to try to resolve
this to no avail. The usual fixes of reinstalling server
ext, refreshing web, recalculating hyperlinks, deleting
temp files, opening/closing, uninstalling/reinstalling FP
don't seem to work (on both my client and server). I
even uninstalled IE 6. IE 5 and SP2 for XP (some
updates) cannot be uninstalled. I tried using system
restore on my client to lose SP2, but I wouldn't
recommend this. I had to use DOS prompt to reenter. I'm
not using Windows firewall. Zone Alarm and NOD32 on my
client and NOD32 on the server were disabled during
testing.

The only solution I can figure is to use FP 98 or
reinstall all software from scratch on another HD and
don't patch XP at all. So this will be a limited use
computer with no web browsing or email--just used for FP
publishing. Import, FTP, copy/paste are not good options
here, because large multiple webs are involved. (The
size of the sites and files are not the issue, because,
before installation of SP2, FP publishing worked. One
site took over 40 minutes to list files--and no error
messages).

Does any body have any other ideas? And does any body
know if MS is working on this. Based on a Google search
of this issue, it appears FP may be unstable for many
users.

Check it FP is listed as an Exception in Security Center - Windows Firewall - Exceptions
(Add FP)
and in Advanced is your Network Connection to the server listed w/ Web server (http) selected

I too have not been able to publish via HTTP in FP2003 since SP2 was
installed in XP Home.

I get the following error:

Unable to open http://MYURL. Possible causes:
1. The webserver may not have FP server Extensions installed (IT HAS)
2. The webserver may temporarily be out of service (IT ISN'T)
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect. ( NO PROXY, Connected to cable modem via router, which hasn;t
changed since before SP2 was installed, Windows FW disabled)
4. An error may have occurred in the web server (DOUBTFUL as can connect via
FTP and Web hostig co say everything OK)

I also get the random time out occurring when trying to publish via the FTP
route.

Any fixes ?
