Can't format a text box

It should be simple !
I have an unbound text box on a form which should take a date. I want
it formatted d mmm yy, for instance 15 Nov 07. This in in fact the
format which I have for short date in the Regional Settings in Control
Panel.
I put d mmm yy in the Format in the Properties but when I enter 15/11/07
in the text box it comes up as 15 Nov 2007, which is too long for the
text box.
What is wrong ?

Don't use a specific format such as d mmm yy. Instead respect your
users choices and use "Short Date". Let them choose, in their
regional settings if they want to use mm/dd/yy, dd mmm yy or
yyyy-mm-dd. And make the field wide enough to allow the use of the
latter.

Personally I always use yyyy-mm-dd.

Tony, thanks for your advice- BUT

1. I don't think anyone but me will ever use this database program so I
don't feel that I have to respect other users.
2. I have d mmm yy set up in Regional Settings in the Control Panel as
the Short Date Format and it shows today correctly as 2 Jun 08.
3. In the Format drop down list in the Properties entry of the text box
however all four date examples - General, Long, Medium and Short are
shown with a four digit year, and whether I put d mmm yy or Short Date.
if I enter 15/11/07 in the box it changes to 15 Nov 2007 when I move to
the next control.
1. I know of course that I could make the box wider but I like it the
same size as the other boxes on the form.

What can be wrong ?
