can't find user after importing xp backup

Importing backup file from XP into Vista. Used Microsoft utility for doing
this, the NtBackupRestore_x86.msi one. It did its thing.

Now I can't access the desktop - it says Location not available, and
c:\users doesn't show that user as even existing. But logging in as that user
still works.

I was a fool and didn't make a system restore point before starting.

How do I restore that user's desktop?

If you can log in as the user, you can see where it's load the profile from.

- Log in as the user.
- Open a command prompt.
- type SET
- look for "USERPROFILE=" and see where it points.
