Can't find Normal.dot in Word 2002

I am using a different computer (Word 2002)at my new firm and trying to
figure out why I can't see normal.dot. I Set Folder Options to display all
files, including hidden and system files, and I confirmed that I am looking
in the default folder (A test template I made up is on view in that folder)
but I can't see it. My laptop sitting next to it running Word 2003 shows
normal.dot exactly where it ought to be--right smack in with my other
templates. Is there any reason not to be able to see normal.dot? Thanks!

ISTR that there was a change "once" (read: forgot with which version it
was) that Normal.dot is only created when you do anything in Word which
would trigger an actual change to the default factory settings of the
global template. I wouldn't have thought that Word 2002 already had
this, but if you have no customizations (say, change the default font)
so far, that might be why Normal is invisible (or rather: not there at all).
