'cant find field 'forms' error message doesnt make sense

Anybody got any clue why I would get the error message: 'cant find the field
'forms' referred to in your expression' and when I debug, this line is
highlighted:
FollowUpTab = Parent.[search and follow up tab].Pages([search and follow
up tab].Value).name

the tabbed pages control name is correct 'search and follow up tab'
this line of code is in a subform so referring to it as an object in the
parent (as far as I know) is correct.

I figured it out.
my value reference was missing it's parent. reference
duh.
