Cant edit the registry

Veronica

Hello.

Well i've been trying to run regedit and some registry files, when i try to
run them (to install something manually or simply to check some things in
the registry, some data i need to extract from the registry that i've lost,
like a CD-Key of a program that its already installed), it always says
something like "the administrator has disabled the modification of the
registry"(and i have the administrator rights, i am the administrator), my
windows is in spanish so i dont know how does it exactly say in the english
version, but anyways, i need help enabling this or fixing this problem
please.

I've done virus and spyware checks, also i've cleaned up my registry so it
cant be one of those.

Thanks for your help

Log in as the administrator and not under someone who has administrator
rights (there is a difference)

This is not accurate. Any account with administrative privileges is the
same as "Administrator".
Veronica, go to MVP Kelly Theriot's website here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

and look under "R" for "Registry". Scroll down and you will find your
issue and the fix.

Hi

To try to solve your problem, do the following:

Go to
http://www.dougknox.com

In the menu , select Security,
Disable/Enable Registry Editing Tools.

This small VB Script will remove this restriction. If the
first time the script is run it says "Disabled", run it
again to enable registry edits again.

To try to find what has caused this:

Run a cleanup tool, e.g. Stinger.exe from McAfee, it removes
the most common 40+ virus/worms in one sweep.

McAfee AVERT Stinger
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

and this one:

On Line Virus Scan
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Be sure to run an updated Antivirus program at all times.

For the Spyware and Parasites part, you will need to run other tools:

The Parasite Fight Quick Fix Protocol

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites
