Can't download upgrades from Microsoft

I don't know what's going on.
I've reinstalled IE 6. I played with all the Java settings possible, both in
the IE tools and in the Control Panel. I went through the "set programs
access and defaults".
When I go to the Windows update page I can't download anything.
It takes me through the Accepting of terms and then when the download screen
comes on nothing happens.
I left my machine a lone for minutes and nothing.
Because I reinstalled IE6, now I can't download the latest patches.

Can anyone tell me what to do? I've tried everything.
