can't download IE 6

i tried downloading IE6 sp1 from the ms site and it says
i have a newer version on my machine so it won't run the
executable. I can't find the IE on my machine. I tried
deleting it from add/remove and in the IE folder in my
program files. Any ideas. I'm trying to remove what I
suspect are some spyware files that won't let go of IE
even with spybot and adaware. thx.
