Can't Display Report

I am getting this error message when I run an anti spyware software.
Your system isn't able to display the full results of this report.
The ability for your browser to execute the javascript has been blocked,
which prevents the report results from being displayed.
How do I correct this problem so that I can display the full results of the
report? I am using Mozilla 1.7.8 and it is the default browser and also I
have IE 6 installed with Windows 200 Professional?
I made IE 6 the default browser and ran the software and now it says that
Java Script has been blocked the program can't display the full results of
this report.

Hi RDoc,

These instructions are for Internet Explorer (sorry we don't support FF
here)

Open internet explorer and then either click on the Globe icon in the status
bar or open Internet Options (Tools>Internet Options menu) to display the
Security tab.

Set the security level in the Internet zone to Default (click the default
button) and save your changes. Ok something has changed here. I was
expecting to see an option in security settings for "Enable scripting of the
web browser control" but I can't.

Ok. I think the above recommendations will work, but there appears to have
been a recent security update (20th Sept. 2006
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/834489 ) that may be affecting
your virus reports so do an update of your security software (Nortons?) just
in case they have updated their software also.

Regards.

Under the security tab there isn't anything that says default settings? The
URL that you gave for the Microsoft Update doesn't exist?

Hi RDOC,

Is this a home computer or a work computer? That you don't have a default
button on the security settings tab indicates that some other software
setting or a group policy (for company computers) setting is disabling the
button.

What anti-virus software are you running? Is there a setting in it to allow
scripting in web pages?

The error message you get when you try to run the virus report from your
virus scan indicates that you have a security setting that does not allow
scripting.

If this is a company computer then you would do best to consult your help
desk.

Regards.

Hi Rob,
This is a home computer and there is a default button there but it is greyed
out since it is set for a custom level under the Security tab. I really don't
remember how or when I set it to Medium and I possibly may have changed other
settings under Security. If I go to the Custom setting and click to reset it
will that do what you want which is to set the Security setting to the
defaults? Is there any postings that I can find on the Internet that would
show me all the default settings for the Security tab?

Hi RDOC,

What about the slider control on the Security tab (when Internet security
zone is selected) It should have a medium level that you can select (which
is the default).

Yes you can select default from the Custom setting dialog and it will revert
to the MS recommended security settings.

What you are trying to achieve is a security level that allows scripting
(which your anti-virus program needs to run the report).

While you are in the Custom Security settings dialog check the values for
any options that mention Scripting or ActiveX controls. Enable them after
you have tried the default settings. If this works and you are able to run
your report you may like to reset your security settings for the internet to
its previous level.

You did not mention the Aniti virus software you are running and also do you
have any other protective software? NetNanny? Spybot S&D.

Check the settings/options for these programs if they are installed.

Regards.

Hi Rob
I compared the Security Tab setting on the computer that is giving me the
trouble to the Security Tab and the advanced tab on a computer that works
fine. The only difference that I find is on the Advanced tab I have a
section: Microsoft VM with JIT compiler machine enabled and a Section: Java
(Sun) with Use JRE 1.5.0_06 for <applet> (requires restart). Otherwise they
are identical. I have Zone Alarm, NOD32, AD-Aware SE, Spybot and Webroot's
Spy Sweeper on both machines. Hope this info helps.

Hi RDOC,

Looks like I was on the wrong track, try making the settings identical to
the machine that does work, Also check Zone Alarms settings or switch it off
while you are running the report. I am not sure if it has an "allow
scripting" setting.

Hope this finally works.

Regards.

The above items are the only differences between the two computers and they
are not on the working machine meaning it has no Microsoft VM or Java section
whatsoever. Now is it possible that these two items are the problem and if
they are what are your suggestions.

Hi me again too.

What is the windows version on the machine that does not work with the virus
report?
Is ZoneAlarm the program that is trying to display the report (I do not use
it as I have nortons). If so it may be that ZoneAlarm needs to be updated
for the Windows version you are running on that machine.

That the non working machine does not have the same internet security and
java settings indicates that the version of the virus reporting software is
not compatiable.

Regards.
