Can't Disable Home Network

hi al

i recently did a clean install of xp pro and created the home network to connect with the 2nd pc in another room. since i "created" the home network and selected "show icon on taskbar etc etc" i have not been able to disable the network. whenever i try this the following message appears. please help

"it is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug-and-play, or it may have been initiated by another user or the system account.

I discovered you can't shutdown a LAN interface unless "Cryptographic
services" is turned on in the "Services" control panel:
services.msc
at Start->Run
