can't delete strange exe file

Norton keeps popping up with this file trying to access the 'net:
xflplkdxjv.exe. I think it's spyware, but sometimes it has an AOL ISP
address, sometimes not. I have deleted the file more than 15 times,
permanently deleted from recycle, and yet it comes back. Can anyone help?

Try running updated antivirus and spyware programs. You have any installed?
You update them regularly?

I ran a Google search for the file you note. I copied the file name and
pasted it so there would be no chance of error on my part. Google returns
NO documents. When you search this file name on the Symantec site, what is
returned? Have you run SpyBot Search and Destroy and/or AdAware? Have you
tried disabling System Restore, running Norton to clean up the hard drive,
and then enabled System Restore and run Norton again? Keep in mind that
when System Restore is disabled, all restore points are lost. Some malware
hides copies of itself in System Restore, so you have to disable System
Restore to completely get rid of them.

I'm downloading Ad-Aware rite now, and I have Norton run at start-up. I did
notice that it wasn't checking "expanded files", so I ran that. But this file
refuses to be deleted and I don't know enough to mess with the regedit (as
suggested to another similar post).

Can you please follow the flow of conversation in a thread rather than junmp
bottom to top. It makes the conversation readable, people can follow what is
happening without having to jump up and down.

See what is found first, adaware may sort your problem. Get Spybot too- they
often find different things. Don't forget to update the programs before
running- and your antivirus too.

Sounds rather like spyware.
I'd suggest looking at what is run at startup - run msconfig and look in
startup for any suspicious entries.
Some spyware is very persistent and will copy/rename executables, usually at
startup.
