cant delete history of web sites

i cant delete none of my history from the web sites i been to. tryed
everything: controlpanel/internet options..even made up a new user acount and
deleted my others..still wont work.. had my system checked and everything
seems to be clean.. the only way i can delete my history is not to have my
messengers running like , msn. it not a bigg issue but id like for it to be
fix. any suggestions would be great. p.s seems this all started when i
downloaded the sp2 for windows xp. i have xp with internet explorer 6.

Delete History
Delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be created on restart.

Or... Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

I tryed all that, still wont work. seems i have to exit all my messengers,msn, and aim, for me to delete the history in internet explorer. but i never had to do this b4. why is this? seems like it started when i downloaded the sp2.
