can't delete files...

I recently did a full install of Windows XP Professional
to an NTFS volume on Disk 2 of my system. I had been
running NT4.0 SP6 off of Disk 1.

Under NT I copied many files from Disk 1 volumes to an
NTFS volume (not the boot NTFS volume) on Disk 2. Many
of these files had the Read-only attribute.

Now I have three (3) of those files on the NTFS volume
that cannot be deleted or have the attributes changed --
the error is Access Denied. This happens whether I boot
inder XP or NT.

What happened to these files??
