When you refer to the percentages you are presumably referring to free
disk space! A 1.5 gb drive does not sound right unless it is a
partition on a drive containing other partitions! Please recheck this
information. What type of files are on the partition? Could this be a
system restore partition created by the laptop manufacturer? Also
please confirm that you are referring to a hard drive and not some
other type of drive?

Would you also confirm we are discussing a computer with Windows XP
installed and not some other version of Windows installed!

The ability to install extra RAM depends on the motherboard
capability. What is the make and model of the computer?

Hope this helps.

The word "memory" is used to refer to RAM. You undoubtedly mean "hard disk
space," not "memory."

Impossible. You can't run Windows XP on that small a drive. Please clarify
what the size really is.

256 ram. also can the ram go up to
512.

How much can be installed depends on the specific computer and its
motherboard. Nobody here, at this distance, can tell you how much can be
installed on her computer.

Soo much free space, soo many choices.

1. Back up your data to external removable media.
2. Choose
a. copy data to D:, create shortcuts, delete duplicates on C: until you
have enough space, defrag.
b. use a repartioning tool available in Knoppix, Gparted, Acronis, or
Partition Magic to shrink D: and enlarge C: then defrag.
c. any of several usable combination of methods a and b.
d. get a new larger drive and an external enclosure and transport your
images to the new larger drive, then swap the new drive with the existing
drive in the laptop. The tools in b. can be used for this also.
3. Make a new backup in addition to the previous.

Resume computing.
