Can't contact domain

I have several machines with XP Pro on them connected to a server with Server
2000. All work perfectly. I get a new machine, go thru all the steps to
connect to domain, but for some reason, the domain name I use for EVERY other
machine can not be contacted thru this one. I've disabled all firewalls,
uninstalled all anti-virus software. Strange thing is I can view shared
files on all clients and server, but can't connect to the domain. Help
please!

What's the error when trying to join the domain? What's error if using nslookup command?

When trying to join the domain I get the error message "Domain controller for
(Domain Name) can not be contacted". When using Nslookup, I get "can not
find (Domain Name). Domain does not exist"

Sarah C,
Go to Administrative Tools and select Local Security Policy on this new
workstation.
Under the Security Options tab, scroll down to :Domain Member: Digitally
Encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) , double click on that string
and disable it. Restart your workstation and join the domain.

Domain controller is not functioning correctly
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837513

A missing service principal name may prevent domain controllers from
replicating
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308111

SRV Resource Records May Not Be Created on Domain Controller
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239897

Cached domain logon information
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172931/
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
The following table lists the entries in this subkey.
Name Type Value
Hostname REG_SZ "computer name"
NV Hostname REG_SZ "computer name"
NV Domain REG_SZ "domain name"

Also the Interfaces:
[-] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCP/IP\Interfaces =
[ab} Domain REG_SZ

Again try to see if that machine having Disjoint namespace by right click My
Computer and select Properties then click on Computer Name Tab and look for
the Computer name and the domain name.

HTH.

nass
