Can't connect to the internet using a wireless Dlink Router

Sorry that I didn't use the proper form in my last posting. Not sure what I
did wrong, but hope this is better. Here is my problem:

I am having a problem connecting my laptop (Win XP Pro) to the internet
using a Dlink router DI -524 and wireless adapter DWL-630. I have installed
both several times and each has its default settings. I am able to ping the
router and get its config menu, but I am not able to access the internet. In
my network connections I have listed an internet gateway connection, and
maybe this is the problem. I connect to the internet using the router and a
cable modem. I am not able to delete the internet gateway connection. If I
connect my laptop to the router using a wired connection it works fine. Any
help would be greatly appreciated, as I so far have about a week into this,
and I am getting nowhere.

The Internet Gateway connection is your D-Link router. There's no
reason to delete it, and you must not disable it. If you disable it,
you're telling the router to disconnect from the Internet, and your
computer won't be able to access the Internet.

Try completely resetting your Internet connection by following these
steps:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right-click and disable your local area network connection.
3. Unplug the power from your cable modem and router.
4. Wait for one minute.
5. Plug in the power on your cable modem and wait until the lights
show that it has a connection.
6. Plug in the power on your router and wait until the lights show
that it has a connection.
7. Right-click and enable your local area network connection.

Then, try accessing the Internet again.

If that doesn't work, right-click your local area network connection
and click Status | Support | Details. What does it show for IP
address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server?

What does the computer show for the DNS server address?

Please try these tests to help find the problem. Open a command
prompt window (Start | Run | cmd) and type these lines. Each one
should receive four replies:

ping <your computer's IP address>
ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.37.99
ping google.com

If all of those work, open Internet Explorer and try these web
addresses. Both of them should take you to the Google web site:

http://216.239.37.99
http://google.com

You're welcome. For some reason, the computer isn't able to access
Internet sites at all. The TCP/IP settings look right, though.

We need to look at the TCP/IP route table. Open a command prompt
window and type this command:

route print >route.txt

Then, copy and past the contents of the "route.txt" file into a news
group reply.
