Can't connect to ISP, eventhough ISP sees modem and PC

Rogier

Yesterday I ran update on WIN xp home edition and left.
When i got back home, my broadband connection had dropped.
I tried resetting the modem and "repair network
connection" but no luck

Called the ISP and they tell me they see my modem and that
the modem sees the pc and checked on the phone the network
settings. Acc. to them, everything looks fine. They were
suspecting software problems.

Anybody that can help me out? I really need my
connection!!

Thanks in advance

The first question I always ask is if you can ping the web sites. if not,
check the DNS settings first, or post ipconfig /all here.

thanks, i´ve been working on this for hours now...
i get a 169.xxx.xxx.xx address and finally managed to get
my ip address from my provider after I had deleted
msbb.exe (bargain buddy) which apparently was causing a
lot of errors in the system log. I´ve removed a couple of
microsoft xp hotfixes as well. After the pc got it´s
access back, i updated windows again and rebooted. I kept
my access to my internet.
after about an hour the connection dropped again and only
after rebooting 10 times i got again an ip-address...
any more thoughts?
