Can't close web page windows

Using win 98. Updated Internet Explorer to latest update
version 6.0.2800.1106 SP1 Now when I display a web page
and then click on the X in the upper right corner to close
it nothing happens. It will minimize with the (-) but will
not close with the X or from the toolbar File>Close.
I have to Cont>Alt>Delete and End Task to close the window.
Anybody else have this problem? Any of my programs
outside of IExp will close OK

This is probably being caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at

If not caused by malware, consider disabling (for diagnostic purposes)
legitimate programs running in the background which might be interacting
with IE- security, antivirus, ad-blockers, toolbars & other add-ons, etc.
You may have to uninstall then reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.
