cant close excel

i was using excel and now i cant close it. i tried detect and repair . after doing it a dialogue box that comes out to restart my computer but then it wont because i cant exit excel. what to do?

Open Task Manager. Highlight MS Excel and click on the
End Task button. If this fails, then use Ctrl-Alt-Del
combination. Choose Log Off or Shut Down computer. Be
patient, it might take several minutes to shut down all
of the running apps and services.
