I have had my sony DV camcorder connected to the firewire
card on my PC. My PC seemed to be able to recognized the
the camcorder. After opening the movie maker 2.0 program,
I was able to initiate the video-capturing process. I
could hear the sound of the camcorder rewinding to start
of the tape and saw a message on the screen for something
like "video capturing in progress,etc". I seems that the
program, movie maker 2.0, was trying to do something
because I could see that the line of "size of file" kept
blinking. But the value of the file size stayed at 0K
(zero kilobyte). On the line for showing the length of
video time that have been transferred, it stayed at
00:00:00. I let the program stay on like this for about
half an hour. There were no change or jump in file size
and video time. I assumed that the program was not able
to capture anything from the mini DV tape. Eventually I
cancel the capturing manually. Did I do anything wrong? I
chose the option of capturing the whole tape instead of
part of the tape. I also chose the option of "best
quality for viewing on PC (Recommended)" I have unchecked
the options of viewing video on PC while capturing and
capture as clips. I have about 30G free harddrive space,
384 mb ram and 1.8 MHz pentium IV cpu. Do I need
additional hardware or software to make it works
