Can't browse the internet

R

Rupert

I have a machine with a static IP address that can't
browse the internet. I can ping from the machine out to
the DNS servers and on to other public webservers but when
I try to browse with IE 6 I get a DNS error. The same
static IP address works perfectly on another machine.
Any suggestions?
Rupert.

The connection is through a firewall (the gateway) and
router. I do not think this is the problem, because I
connected another machine to the same network point using
an identical static IP address and it worked perfectly.

If you use a static ip address on a computer, you have to enter the
DNS settings on that computer also. Compare the DNS settings on the
two computers - the one that works and the one that doesn't. Are they
identical?

Are you pinging the same websites that you try to access from IE? By
name in both cases?
