Can't browse after update

Hi,
I got a used SONY VAIO laptop as a gift. It has a windows 2000. It didn't
have the latest windows update, so I went to Microsoft website to download
the latest. The first one was the Internet Explorer 6.1 SP1. It downloaded
just fine . After my computer restarted I could not get online again. I can
see that the computer is online through the network card icon by checking its
status, but Explorer does not open. I keep getting the PAGE NOT FOUND ERROR.
I had no such problem before downloading and now I cannot make it work again.
I have a DSL at home. I just plugged and it was online, my other computer is
online and before they were both online and I was able to browse the
internet.
Any suggestion how I can fix it ?
Thanks.

Check Event Viewer for errors.

Reinstall IE6. You can use the regedit described in this article to
reinstall IE. I know the article says for Windows XP, but I used it
successfully on Windows 2000. Seems like after setting "IsInstalled" to 0,
and after restart then IE/OE reverted back to IE5.0 Then you can just run
the setup again for IE6
