Can't boot up after updates installed

I have an HP pavilion XT983 running Windows XP Home Edition. Windows
automatically downloads updates, but does not install them until the machine
is shut down. When I shut down a couple of days ago, it installed 5 updates.
Now the machine won't start back up. The fan is running and the light is on
the power button, so I know it has power. But it's not going through any
bootup, and the monitor comes on then within a couple of seconds the green
light turns yellow. I can't even boot to safe mode or anything. Anybody
have a suggestion?

Tina, try unplugging the Computer from the wall receptacle. Reconnect and
see what happens.

That seems to have done the trick. How in the world could that possibly
have anything to do with it??? I had it unplugged the whole weekend and just
plugged it back in this morning and that's when it wouldn't boot.

It's not an updates problem,it's a pc problem check you power supply i think
that the power supply is the cause of the problem,if not i think you must
check your bios

Tina, like Adel said it's a PC problem. In my case I have a flaky
Motherboard and sometimes pulling the plug gets me started again.
