permission denied when i load c drive and programs files on lan, why? i
have simple sharing no passwords needed etc and need to have complete
access to all files and folders across the lan. how do i fix this?

i am sorry, but i don't have time to read a networking how to site so if
someone would just tell me please I'd really appreciate it.

how do i enable filesharing on my win xp pro so that anyone on my lan
can access anything what so ever read and write access without a
password needed? what i do is right click on c drive, just enable
filesharing is what i select. but i can't go to the program files folder
c:/program files. and so forth.

This restriction is part of the "simple file sharing" feature.

You'll need to turn that off to gain this access.

Bear in mind there's a reason for this restriction--having certain portions
of the drive shared--the root of the drive Windows is installed on, for
example--adds significantly to the risk of damage from virus infections.

Start, run, Explorer <enter>
Tools, Folder options, View tab
Scroll to the end of the advanced settings list, uncheck "use simple file
sharing (recommended)"

You might want to read and consider the help entries on this subject, as
well.

Sorry i should have said well, here Bill. I don't know if i was using or
am using simple filesharing cus when i go to the sharing i told it, just
enable filesharing. however you told me to un check the simple
filesharing so i did and it still won't let me access. i however did not
reboot. don't know if that means anything.

Hmmm....You really do need to read this...

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/filesharing.htm
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm
all i want to do is right click on c and d drive, enable filesharing so
anyone on my lan will be able to browse, upload and download and delete
with no passwords needed to all possible files and folders. this does
not seem possible since i did this already and still get the dang
permission denied error when trying to access certain folders on the c
drive.

Here's what i do.

right click c drive.
sharing and security.
new share and type in c for name cus it's the c drive
i get permission denied when trying to access programs files folder, and
some other folders.
all possible access is given to everyone, read and write.
permission denied when trying to access certain folders.

From a quick Google search, using the search string 'share windows folder', I found this answer from
Steve Winograd, MS-MVP, to a similar question...

You can search Google groups using the Advanced Search feature at...It works very well...

http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8

To disable simple file sharing see this page, which was pointed to in an earlier reply...

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm

Good luck...
