Can't Access Office Programs After Upgrade to Windows Professional

I installed a Windows XP Professional SP2 upgrade on a Compaq computer that
originally came with Windows 98SE. Everything went great with the
installation but I cannot see / access any of my MS Office Programs. I
cannot re-install Office because it was an upgrade to MS Works that came
pre-installed on the Compaq; at least I don't think I can, since it is an
upgrade package. Is there anyway to work around this so I can continue to
use my Office software?

Are you sure you upgraded and didnt install a new instance of winxp?
If you locate winword.exe in explorer and double click, does it open?
Did you try a repair of Office using the cd?

Yes, I am certain that I upgraded. I just tried to open Winword.exe and
received the following message: "The Windows registry has reported that one
or more required files are damaged or missing. To correct this problem, run
the Word Setup program." I did not try a repair of Office using the cd?
Should that be my next step?

Thank you!

I started the CD and it seemed to install Office without a hitch. Thanks so
much for your help.
