can't access camcorder since SP2 upgrade

i have a Sony digital camcorder attached via firewire.
Windows Exporer recognises the camcorder when switched on but when trying
to open the folder I receive message 'Video preview failure - creation of
video preview failed.............'
This occurrs with the camcorder switched to play/edit or to camera and
without any other programmes running.

Access problems also occurr in other software e.g. Windows Movie Maker.

The problem started after installing SP2 and disappears if SP2 is uninstalled.

Can anyone offer any help.

SP2 must be the worst-researched upgrade Microsoft have ever issued, judging by
the posts on this newsgroup. I have the CD on my desk, but I'm not going near
it, unless forced to at some point in the future. I have a perfect SP1 system at
the moment, and it's staying that way. My advice is roll back to SP1.

I have SP2 but have not tried my Sony camcorder. You might check to
see if Windows Firewall is blocking firewire, which is considered a
networking protocol and can carry internet over it, so it may be
blocked outgoing and can't communicate with your camera.

SP2 version blocks a lot of outgoing ports that affect games, so it's
worth looking into.

Same problem with SP2 someone must be able to help - although by digital
device is regonised by the OS the DV signal via the firewire is heavily
"broken" pixelated works fine or restore to SP1 -

I am having the SAME problem as the first fellow posted. I am using the Sony
Handycam and a Pyro A/V Link and I get the same error. Also a "Class Not
registered" error when trying to use Movie Maker. Could anyone offer any
advice?

THanks in advance,

Bob
