Canon scanners

I have a Canon Lide 30 scanner, which has no driver for Vista 64 bit.
(There is a 32 bit driver on the Canon web site.) I wrote to Canon
([email protected]) and recieved a reply that "Unfortunately,
at this time Canon has not announced a 64 bit Vista
driver." I don't know if this means they will at some time in the
future. However, they offered "a one-time opportunity to purchase a
new product of the same type, discounted from the list price." They
didn't specify how much of a discount, but for anyone having trouble
with a Canon product, it's worth a try. They didn't ask for proof
that I have Vista 64 bit, but did ask for proof that I own a Canon
scanner (date of purchase, serial number, and model.)
BTW, I can still use my scanner with my laptop (which is what I bought
the Lide 30 for to start with anyway, since it's portable, and is
powered from the USB port).

Try VueScan. It uses its own drivers and the scans are much higher quality
than the standard Canon software, especially for photo negatives.

You may find that your scanner starts working with other apps after it is
installed, as some people have reported this.

It is highly unlikely that a 64bit driver will appear.. the general thinking
is that products like the Lide 30 will not be used commercially, so there is
no point..

Hello,
I have no idea about this special Vista64 Bit driver, but this Vista32 Bit
friver not work with any software too.
I use now the WIA driver from Canon for Windows XP without any problems.

Use the Canon uninstall program available for the same place as the new
drivers.. this will remove all trace of old drivers..

Next, run the new driver program.. it appears to do nothing after a minute
or two.. disconnect the scanner and reboot the system..

Connecting the scanner again will see Vista popping up an 'I found it'
window..

Now install the matching Vista compatible ToolBox.. Voila..

I've been to the VueScan web site. For the price they want, I can get
a new Lide 25 scanner for only $15 more.

Follow up: I got the reply from Canon, it's a 10% discount for buying
from the Canon web site. It includes free overnight shipping, but
Newegg charges less than Canon WITH the discount.

Why don't you at least try the trial? The drivers may let your other
software work with the scanner. And the quality of the scans really is
impressive.
