Canon MP730

T

Tiger

I ahve recently purchsed a Canon Multifunctional
Printer/Scanner/Fax/Copier.
I have installed all the software etc as explained int he
manual.
If I click the Scan button on the device, I get a device
error on my Win 2K machine, stating that there are no
programs associated with the scan button...but everything
has been confirmed to be configured correctly.
I have spoken with Canon, and they have told me this is a
Win 2K issue ...

Anybody seen this before ?

Did you Installed by Administrator Account?
aldo did you operate under administrator privilege?
or page 12-7 issue on Users Guide?
(If so you need setup and then restart your computer to activate settings)

what was whole story from canon.

I installed everything as Admin.
I will check page 12-7 of user guide...

Canon walked me through checking settings in Toolbox and
Control panel/Scanners...they confirmed that all my apps
were linked.
I had already done all of this, but they wanted to confirm.
Also, they claim that pushing this SCAN button simply
brings up a box asking to select app, but the box is
empty...I have ticked all boxes in Control Panel to allow
the apps...but still no go.
They believe it to be a Win 2K issue....seems odd to me !

Do you have any Utility Software Installed on your PC?
do you run any background applications on start up?
If you can, can you try to disable all of unnecessary program from start up
(startup control panel are helpful http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml )

I think, they(Canon Tech people) are talking about "one particular (your)
Windows 2000 Issue"
not all of windows 2000 .

which means may be your utility software or one of your hardware driver make
this situation.
(I think)

I have a lot of SW that runs on startup...

I can try disable Norton, Firewall, etc and test from
there...

Will update later once done.

Could also be a SP issue - SP3 and SP4 have both caused problems with
printers and CD-ROMs.

I have tried all suggested tests....

I disabled startup apps, looked at 12-7 in user guide,
tried reloading etc

I don't want to rollback to SP2, but if you guys believe
this to be the issue, I can do it just for testing.

I am going to try using a machine with XP on it, and see
if it works...if not, Canon can have their machine back.
