Canon I950 speed

I recently purchased a Canon I950 to replace my old HP 2000C. I have
always liked the 2000C but the I950 is so much faster that I thought I
would upgrade. So far I am disappointed in the speed of the 950. It
takes 13 seconds of head cleaning/calibrating/warmup or what ever else
it does before the 950 starts to print the first page. It's really
fast after it starts but in those 13 seconds my 2000C has finished
page one and started page two. I don't print many photos and most of
my print jobs are 5 pages or less so the 2000C is just about as fast
as the 950 in my normal use. Am i missing something here? Do all
950's behave this way or is mine defective? Opinions?

as far as the "cleaning cycle" goes, it only does that at the beginning of
the day or if the unit hasn't be run for quite some time. Probably not a bad
thing.

when I have a large printing job, say lots of 4 by 6 photos, it's great.
takes about 35 seconds.

I haven't been disappointed with the warm-up.

Thanks for the reply. I understand the cleaning process after some
idle time. My HP 2000C does the same thing only it's quicker. The
longest it takes the 2000C to start printing is 5 or 6 seconds after a
cleaning cycle. Normally it starts in 2. I find the wait for the
Canon annoying but I guess it's just the nature of the beast.

My reaction to my new i860 was the same. There's a lot of rumbling
around, during which my old Lexmark Z53 would probably have finished,
but when it finally gets around to printing it's very fast. Then
again, when I compare the quality of the output, I forgive Canon
completely.
