Canon DV -- Send to DV camera

W

Will

This is a similar problem... I captured a movie from a DV
camcorder (Canon ZR40 DV) and edited it in movie maker. I
then saved the project and wanted to send it back to the
DV camcorder in its new edited form. By the way, I have a
Firewire card and thats the way the camcorder is
connected. Movie maker takes control of the camera, says
its creating the movie, then it makes the camera start
recording... sounds good, but it only records black for
the entire length of the movie. Please Help!

Will, I have the same camera and did the same thing. The
process I went through that was successful was as follows:

Download a copy of a program called "WinDV". You can
download it for free off the internet. It should create
an icon on your desktop. Then, save your movie using
Movie Maker and save it as a Movie. Make sure the format
says DV-AVI. You'll see this option in the menu in movie
maker. Once the movie has been saved as a DV-AVI file,
you can then start your WinDV program. It will give you
two options: one is for capturing from the camera, the
other for transferring to the camera. Make sure your
camera is attached to your computer and you turn it on to
the Play/VCR (NOT the record). On the WinDV program,
make sure you select the option for transferring or
recording back to the camera and MAKE SURE you check the
little box to the left of the RECORD button (or whatever
the button is that you click on to start the transfer).
You should have no problem at this point with
transferring the file back to your camera. One thing to
keep in mind is that you might have some audio drop outs
periodically on the tape you just recorded back to,
especially if you have a lot of the movie maker
transitions in your film. Also, keep an eye on how large
your file is. I found this out when I went to transfer
to DVD and discovered that my file was too big for the
DVD so I had to dump a bunch of the file just to burn the
DVD. Good luck! Arlene PS - PapaJohn's posts
throughout the forum, as well as his own website
(papajohn.org) are incredible. He's absolutely amazing
in his knowledge of movie maker AND he's been totally
helpful when emailing him directly. He'll do everything
he can to walk you through the process if the above
doesn't work.

Hi Arlene,

I guess your new computer is working well for you :) Thanks for the
positive comments; wish there was enough time every day for me to give
everyone personal assistance.
