Canon BJC 8000

Does anyone know anything about a Canon BJC 8000 inkjet printer? A
friend has given me one, but it needs a color cart and/or a photo cart. Is
it worthwhile to spend the money on this printer?
I would like to use it for 5x7 photos and for making greeting cards. My
Canon i850's print head took a crap,so I'm without a printer at this time.
Would it be that necessary to have both color and photo carts.
All opinions are welcome.
Thanks,
Don Davis

It's a reasonable printer, especially at the price you paid<g>. How long since
it was used? The question is whether the printhead is in good condition, if it
has not been used for months there may be some difficulty getting the printhead
to work but the folks at http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/index.php can help in
this regard.
I would be inclined to buy a quality compatible colour ink cartridge and try
it. If it works then great (you could then consider the extra cost of a photo
cartridge), if it doesn't you have spent only a few dollars. I won't recommend
a manufacturer because it depends what is available in your area. Others may
help you here.
On the off chance that you don't already know, please ignore Measekite who is
our resident offensive and totally ignorant troll.
Seasons greetings to you.

The i850 printhead, assuming it's not clogged and actually burnt out is
actually a semi decent unit. I'm on the ip3000 which shares a
printhead so you have to ask your self is it worth spending like $60 on
the printhead, $60 to $80 on a printer with the same printhead, or buy
a new ip4200 for $120ish. Canon heads typicaly cost 1/2 or 2/3 the
value of a new printer. Sad but true.

The black yield IIRC was massive on that thing... 900 pages IIRC but
don't know their system of measurement, probally 1500 characters
Expect it to be higher than your i850 if memory serves me.

90 nozzles per color, 300ish for the black. doesn't sound "so" great
but consider that it's very likely this unit didn't have the same 5pl
and 2pl drop size that your i850 did, and we are talking with something
with the option of more graduated inks than your i850. It's a
tradeoff, something you have to decide if it's worth it.

The bj8000 was unique in the fact that it offered 6 tank color printer,
cmy and light cyan, light magenta, and light yellow(IIRC). IIRC the
printheads are $50ish per but with ink making them a slightly better
deal. As a bonus, i'm told the drivers come stock with winxp 64. I'm
not sure on the resolution, but i'd say it's worth looking at.

As far as i'm aware you had your choice between color or photo, but no
choice of both. I believe also, not sure, but I believe you had to
have either a photo head.. something like the bj-61 color vs the bj-62
photo. I could be wrong, this was a while ago.

The BJC 8000 is the BJC7000 and was only sold at Circuit City.
It does use the BC61 and 62 along with the BC60.

Thanks, Guys, for the feed back.
My i850 print head is a goner.
I was able to get the BJC 8000 to print in black. My friend told me that
the black cart was new and that the color cart had just run out before he
gave the printer to me. So, with your suggestions, I odered a color cart.
I will let you know how things turned out.
