Cannot Write to DVD Drive

To Any Good Hardware and/or Software Samaritan,

I have very strange problem that started about 3 months ago. It started
out of the blue for some reason that I cannot figure. I cannot now write to
my pair of DVD/CD drives (Plextor Model PX-755SA). They are recognized by
the system and can read any DVD/CD that is place in them. However, with
that said, every time I stick a fresh disk in either of the drives they
cannot be formatted. When I try and just insert a blank disk in either of
the drives and burn files or photos to it, I get the message that the action
cannot be completed because the drive is in use by another program. If
anyone out in the great Ether has any suggestions on how to solve this
problem, PLEASE let me know at your earliest convenience. Thanks in advance
for any and all help.

You neglected to state which burning program you are attempting to use. Do
you have Nero or Roxio installed. If you do, and you installed the packet
writing module, this "may" (notice that I said MAY) cause problems such as
you are seeing - IF you attempt to write to a disk using media player or
explorer. The packet writing module is already loaded. That is the other
program that has control of the burner.

Richard,

I got a Blackberry Bold about two weeks ago and that had a version of Roxio
in it. I do not have NERO on this machine. The problem appeared several
months previous to that. I had been tryying to make some photo DVDs using
Windows Media Player when this problem occurred. You obviously seem to be
on the right track anyway. I appreciate the help and any further
suggestions that you could give. Thanks.

Thanks also to breitak67 but the machine has been running Vista since I
bought it.
