cannot transfer files to flash drive

I have a flash drive that is supposed to hold 250 mg of material; I have only
5 used up, but now, whenever I try to send a document from "My Documents" to
the flash drive, I get an error message saying, "file or folder cannot be
created." I'm confused. When I hook up my external floppy, I have no
problem. This same problem, however, has also appeared with my Zip drive.
So, I have these devices that are supposed to hold lots of information, but
they won't take it. Any ideas? I'm at a loss. Thanks

Such devices can hold what they say but you need to be careful not to
have too many files in the root drive. e.g. A Zip drive can only hold
260 entries and that number is usually less than half of that as long
file names take up more than one entry.
The solution is to create folders in the drive and put your files in
those.

This article is old, but should be still valid for your problem.
