Cannot Stop Hard Drives

XP Pro SP2 on a desktop w/ASUS MB.

When I set the power options to turn off the screen after
30 minutes and stop the hard drives after 45 minutes, the
system will freeze with a dark screen at about 45 minutes.
Must do RESET to restart. Why is that??

As I said, this is a desktop. But Hibernate works fine
so that's what I use. Why is that, too??

Seems the operating system is waiting for the hard drive to respond.
Don't stop the HD, just use hibernate or standby.
