Cannot start the reminder service

I performed (start, run, outlook /cleanreminder) to correct appointments that
did not properly adjust after the change to Daylight Savings Time. However,
I am now receiving an error message that Outlook cannot start the reminder
service. What's up with that.

Does your error message say anything about *why* it can't start the reminder
service? For example, I am aware of a message that Outlook 2003 gives that
says something to the effect of Outlook is unable to read the recurrence
info, so it can't start the reminder service. In that case, there is usually
a corrupted appointment in there somewhere, and there are some steps you can
go through to recreate the corrupted appointment(s). If that's the case
here, I can give you those steps.

Good luck!

I wish I could answer your question, but no Outlook is not telling me why it
cannot open the reminder service. I am getting no other response from the
program. However, I am now finding in my calendar that some recurring items
(ie birthdays are extending over to the next day. That may be why this is
happening, but I have a ton of these items as I was using this system to keep
up with client birthdays, anniversaries, etc. To correct all of these will
be a PAIN!!! I am guessing that this may be the cause of the error, but
Outlook is not specifically saying that is the case.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try starting Outlook with the /resetfolders switch. That usually works. If
the problem repeats see if you are running some sort of synch software with
a PDA., some of those end up corrupting or duplicating the hidden Reminders
folder and that really screws things up for reminders.

What & Where is this /resetfolders switch. How do I do this? and yes, I do
syn with my Palm Pilot, but that has never created a problem before. This
did not start happening until I did the start, run, outlook/ cleanreminder
task.

Same place as /cleanreminders. Start, Run: outlook.exe /resetfolders. Then
Enter.

Ken, two items.

1. This worked for me, thanks. Can I suffix my shortcut command with this
switch along with the default /recycle switch? Would iPod iTunes be a suspect
app? And if so, is a fix in the works? :) (running & ducking)

2. Interestingly enough, I've been setting up a multi-user system for my
sons and noticed that the initial default Outlook 2003 .pst files that are
created are corrupt per scanpst.exe fresh out of the shoot. Why is that?

I found the RUN > outlook.exe /cleanreminders /resetfolders allowed my
reminders service to start running again, but I'm still not getting any to
pop up and all my stuff is clean.

Go to this link and save the page. It has all the command line switchs.

This still isn't working for me. The bubble at the bottom of the page still
says 'Cannot start the reminder service. UNable to show reminders'.
I've been through everything that's been suggested, bar uninstalling and
reinstalling Outlook - That would be a right cafuffle and lose me hours of
working time.

In that case try another profile. If you are using a PST file you might have
to set up a new one and copy everything from the old one to the new one.
With the new profile, set it up completely as new, don't do a copy of your
existing profile.

I am getting the message "There was a problem reading one or more of your
reminders. Some reminders may not appear. Cannot locate recurrence
information for this appointment." I have done the cleanreminders and
resetfolders commands, but they didn't help. Any suggestions?
