Cannot send or receive email

You have to tell Windows Mail what servers to contact...
Your email account provider should have a help page on their website with
the correct server names and settings.
Some even have tutorials. If they don't have one for Windows Mail, use the
one for Outlook Express.

If you are trying to access your BT account,
http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.c..._cv=4.414&p_cats=346,401,412,414&p_faqid=9701

Or, if you tell us who provides your email account, perhaps someone can
help.

My new computer Windows Vista and Windows Mail but everytime I try to send
or receive I get the following message.
Please can somebody help me as I am going round in circles!

The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

in my previous email system (outlook express) I could type a few letters in
the "to" box and the names would jump into the box. Now I have to scroll
through my address book. This is primitive. Is there a way to make it work
like Outlook Express?

Note that you are replying to someone else's thread that is a different
subject. You should assume that some people that might help might avoid
helping because you did not create a new thread. It is easy to create a new
thread.

In February, Microsoft enabled POP access for free Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts.
Follow the settings given here:
http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!CC9301187A51FE33!49799.entry
Use port 587 rather than port 25 for the SMTP server.

Although it accepts the newer Live.com addresses, Windows Mail's
account setup wizard is hard-coded to reject Hotmail and MSN addresses.
To get around that, when you enter your Hotmail/MSN email address initially,
use a fake one, such as (e-mail address removed). After the account setup is
complete, go back into the Properties for that account and correct your email
address.

That is known as the auto-complete function.
Windows Mail does not auto-complete from your contacts.
It uses a separate list of the last 29 recipients you've sent mail to.

The auto-complete feature works perfectly in the replacement
program, Windows Live Mail, which uses the standard contacts list
for auto-completion.
You are encouraged to upgrade to the newer WLM program:
