Cannot Send .exe .zip or .jpg attachments

N.B. This is a problem related to sending attachments
with OE *NOT* a problem with receiving them.

I have a Win XP machine with a Creatix v.9x DSP modem and
IE6/OE6 SP1 allround.

I am unable to send emails with attchments of
form .exe, .zip, or .jpg (these are the only binaries
I've tried so far).

I have no problem sending .doc or .exe attachments of any
size.

The error message I get from OE when sending
email with .exe, .zip, or .jpg attachment is ...........

Your SMTP server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would
u
like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?

If I press "wait" button, it will wait for another 60
seconds and do nothing still, but if I press "stop" button
another error message pop up:

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server.
Subject 'dafdfsd', Account: 'mail.iinet.net.au',
Server: 'mail.m.iinet.net.au', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I have tried extending the tim-out period.
I am aware of the OE Virus Checking featre and have set
that option correctly.
I have tried turning off the Win XP firewall.
I have tried turning off mail scanning in AVG virus
checker
I have tried the S12=50 modem init string referred to in
MS knowledgebase article regardig problem of sending .jpg
file.
I have tried sending with completely different email
account from same machine.

Have also tried .....the following .....

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514
OL: Error 0x800ccc0d or 0x800ccc0f When Receiving and
Sending E-Mail
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=254926

Messages That Contain an Attachment Stay in the Outbox
(Error 0x800ccc13 - Socket write error)

All to no avail.

Does anyone out there know the answer to this problem?

Where I work the firewall prevents us sending .exe files as attachments.
A workaround solution is to zip the file then send that as attachment.
It may or may not wotk for you but could be worth a try.

.

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002 & 2003 from the
Office family for Windows PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting
in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.mail.mac for the Macintosh version of OE

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

Doh! Apologies, just re-read the subject. You can't send zips either so my
suggestion won't be of much use to you!
