I recently updated Norton and can no longer send email with WM. This is the
error message
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'windows mail', Server:
'smtp8.sympatico.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F
I uninstalled Norton and still could not send.
Not sure what else to do

I am experiencing the same problem. I can send an e-mail with "test" entered
in the subject box but am unable to send when anything is entered in the
message box

"Unexpected" termination is usually caused by interference from a
non-compatible antivirus program. Norton antivirus is among the top three
troublemakers for Windows Mail.
The only way you can prove or disprove that Norton is the culprit is to
uninstall it. You MUST follow up the uninstall with their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so, right-click on the
error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

I followed your link and properly unistalled Norton 2008, i still get the
error message

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'windows mail', Server:
'smtp8.sympatico.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
is upgrading to WM Live my only other option.
Thankyou for your help

Assuming you ran the special removal utility I referenced, then about the
only option left is upgrading to Windows Live Mail. After you get that done
successfully, you can try reinstalling Norton, but disable any of its email
involvement.

I am not able to send emails from windows live here is the error message, any
ideas?
An unknown error has occurred.

Subject 'Dance partner clinic forms'
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0B
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure(SSL): Yes

I had the exact same issue. Could recieve E-Mail but not send it unless it
only had test in the subject line. I tried working with Time Warner who is
my provider and they could not figure it out. After reading this posting I
checked my system. I have Webroot Spy Sweeper installed and had all 12
shield active. I think this occured during a recent update. When I
deactived the E-Mail Attachments shields I could send E-Mails again!

Thanks!

"Unknown error" is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program or anti-spyware. Which security programs
are you running? As a minimum, email scanning must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your security program may need to be replaced
by a more compatible one.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm
