I have not been able to send email from my outbox for several weeks now.
Comcast provides out internet, but has been little to no help. We have
Outlook 2003, and have checked everything suggested to no avail. I have
three different accounts for the same email because of changed settings. We
get the same message, " 'Task POP3.comcast.net-sending' reporting error
(0x80042109): 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' " Any suggestions would
be appreciated.

Are you running both the Norton firewall and Windows firewall? Disable one.
Make sure Outlook.exe is added to allow outgoing access.
Also, have you updated Norton recently? Check their website for any possible
issues. If you're not using Norton, then whatever application you use for AV
please ensure it's using the latest updates for the version. If you have AV
set to scan incoming and outgoing emails, you should reconfigure your AV to
disable that. It won't compromise your security since your real time scanner
will find any viruses.
Are you trying to connect to an SMTP (outgoing mail) server other than your
ISP's? Make sure you have set authentication for your outgoing mail in your
account properties.

Ms. Orland,
Thanks. I tried that before and still had problems. But I tried it again,
and this time it's working. Thanks again!

I have been reading all the threads for the 0x80042109 Sending error in MS
Outlook. I am running Outlook 2007 and suddenly I started getting this
message. I've changed nothing with my e-mail. I am not running Windows
Firewall and I have disabled the in/out e-mail scanning in Norton AV. I
checked the Norton website and there is nothing there that I can find that
even closely relates to this problem. I don't know how to contact my ISP as
I live abroad in Korea and don't speak the language (we took it over from the
last guy and it's worked for 2 years) and my e-mail is still a UK one and
nothing has changed. HELP! I also don't understand some of the solutions
people have suggested such as "Make sure Outlook.exe is added to allow
outgoing access" - added to what? Nor do I understand the port 25
discussion. Could you possibly help me out in layman's terms? I'm running
Windows Vista. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer. It's a
really frustrating problem!

I've had the same problem for the past two weeks with Outlook 2007. I have
no problem sending through my comcast account, but through my personal
website account, I cannot send through any of three e-mail addresses. The
server provider for my website has had ongoing problems with being blocked
from AT&T accounts (don't know whether that's related). I use McAfee
security.

I have finally solved my problem. I am with BT Internet (now BT Yahoo in UK)
and they recently made changes to their server configuration without
informing us, its customers! Basically they blocked the port 25 for outgoing
e-mail I believe to reduce the amount of spam being sent. I searched their
site and found a new port number was now being used. I recommend you visit
your e-mail provider's website and look up the POP3 and SMTP (required on
mine) settings to find out if you are still using the correct port numbers. I
hope this helps you.

Thanks so much for your response, Jules! It sounds like I have two servers
to deal with: (1) Comcast, which gives me internet access and an e-mail
address, which I have no problem sending mail through; and (2) Value Web,
which is the host of my website and .soleilstodos.com e-mail addresses, which
I can no long send through Outlook. So are you saying that I need to contact
Value Web re: changes to their server configuration or Comcast?

Jules

It sounds to me as though you need to check with whomever provides you with
your soleilstodos.com e-mail address (ValueWeb?). I access the Internet
through a Korean company that I couldn't even tell you the name of but my
e-mail address is still from a British company. It was the British company
that made changes to their server configuration. I could access my e-mail
online directly but couldn't send any through MS Outlook. This is the link I
went to in order to get the initial information:
http://www.btinternet.com/~firststop/shortcuts/smtperror553.htm - of course
this is for BT Yahoo. I don't know where you'd need to look as I've never
heard of those you mentioned! Sorry I couldn't be of further help. Good
luck!

I am running McAfee firewall. Windows firewall is disabled. Still keep
getting the same error and messages don't go out of Outlook. It was working
fine from different places but has quit.
