cannot send e-mail

Seems as though many of us are having problems sending mail. Prior to that
everything was working fine using Windows Mail and Microsoft Live One Care
for virus protection. I have checked with my ISP, and my settings are
correct. What could be the problem? I can receive mail, but cannot send.
At this time I am accessing my mail though ISP, but Windows Mail is my
preference. Help would be welcome.

I know that this isn't an answer, as such, but are you getting the repeated
request to log onto your mail server. When I do that, it just keeps asking
me again. I am on BT Yahoo. My settings are correct, also. I have a new
PC, so is it that the IP address isn't recognised yet???

It would have been helpful if you had included a copy of the error message.
Without that error message, I can only make a stab in the dark.

There has been a recent rash of send failures involving OneCare users.
To fix this problem:
In Windows Mail:
Click on Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs. Under the Personal tab
you will see a digital ID. Highlight it and click the Remove button.
Restart Windows Mail and try sending.

i've just checked this, and there isn't anything in there at all. I am
installing Windows Outlook 2002, and if it works then I'll be 100% sure that
it isn't my settings or e-mail scanner.
I saw the Windows Mail program for the first time, last saturday, It looks
like it won't be used, if I can't configure it properly.

Outlook 2002 is not fully compatible with Vista. See
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm

I will gladly help with any Windows Mail problems, but I need the
complete error message for troubleshooting.

i am having the same problem!

Yes.

Tonight I chatted with someone at roadrunner and they verified through
webmail that it wasn't a server issue but a problem with Windows Mail.

I just spent 75 minutes with Dell and got nowhere.

I'm a little frustrated... :/

That type of problem is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

I can receive, but not send. The error message is (with my account xd out):

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Returned Phone Call',
Account: 'mail.xxxxx.com', Server: 'mail.sxxxxx.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any advice?

Since you blanked out the domain name, I can't give you a definitive
response, but I can make an educated guess.
That looks like a vanity domain name, not your ISP. As such, your
home ISP will block your use of any port 25 SMTP server other than
their own. For an explanation of this policy, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

To send from home, you will have to substitute your home ISP's
SMTP server. If you need help with that, let us know who your
home ISP is.

Are you connected to the Internet through sxxxxx.com when you get this
message?

The domain name, shipshaper.com, is one directly purchased for my business
and hosted on Blue Domino. I have run Vista Mail for many months, this
problem just began a week ago. I can send and receive from the Blue Domino
web mail program. I ran the mail on another mail server for 3 years without
a problem.

I believe I am the home ISP.

G

Gary VanderMolen

What do you mean by "I am the home ISP"?
Your Internet Service Provider is the company that provides your
connection to the Internet. Either you changed your Internet provider
one week ago, or else they changed their port 25 blocking policy.

I stand by my original analysis of this issue.

I'm connected through Comcast. But, as I noted, this has not been a problem
until last week.

G

Gary VanderMolen

Comcast is rather fickle about imposing a port 25 block.
They do so on a customer by customer basis rather than as a blanket policy.

To fix your problem, change your SMTP server to smtp.comcast.net.

AWESOME!!!
Iv been looking for that solution for a week now.
Everyone told me I had to scrap OneCare.
I paid good money to just throw it out.
It seems a lot of people are having the same problem
Maybe you could post you solution to the group with a big catchy subject so
many others can find it.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

Good to hear that solution worked.
What is troublesome is that it occurred in the first place.
Seems like the OneCare developers don't talk to the Mail developers,
and vice versa.
